Portraits & Emotions

This trimester in Art we worked with Portraits and Emotions with the 4th Grade students. All of the students know the typical emotions such as, happy, sad, angry, and hungry, but we wanted them to expand their vocabulary so we learned emotions like ¨suprised, excited, bored, and guilty¨ words they didn´t know before this project.

Students even had an opportunity to work with the ipads. We utilized an application on the ipads that showed them how they could manipulate the parts of the face to change the emotion they express. For example, the corners of the eyes pointing up usually expresses a happier emotion, and the mouth pointing down gives a sad expression. Playing this game on the ipads gave them ideas of how they needed to draw the features of the face in order to express a certain emotion.

Finally, students had to choose an emotion that they wanted to represent in their own portrait. We took pictures of all the students immitating this emotion with their expression, and printed out their pictures for them to use as a guide for drawing their portrait. The results were fantastic! Great work 4th Grade!
