Henri Matisse in Class 6

Hello again from sunny Chans!

After investigating the life of Romero Britto, we decided to look into his inspiration. His main influences on his artwork were Picasso and Matisse.

So you know about a bit about Henri Matisse's work, here is a little information for you...

His aims:

  • Discover the essential character of things
  • Produce art of balance, purity and serenity
  • Remove shadows
  • Using line and colour together- this was not normal in art before
  • Show things the way he saw them instead of trying to draw objectively

Matisse was an important artist in the movement of Fauvism

Characteristics of Fauvism:

  • Spontaneous and not very tidy
  • Allows for more freedom
  • Lots of bright, primary colours
  • Influences from pointillist painting (painting with dots) and using different layers.
  • Feeling a painting with your eyes instead of seeing it.
  • Simple shapes
  • Using colour to present emotions

Taking all of this into account, here is the artwork produced by class 6A....

I hope you enjoy their work!
